Matthew M. Smith

Mr. Smith has 19 years of private equity investment experience. He is responsible for reviewing investment opportunities with specific emphasis on analysis and due diligence for prospective investments and is engaged in the negotiation of business and legal issues, ongoing monitoring of investments and profit realization from distributed securities.  Mr. Smith, as Abbott’s ESG Officer, is responsible for building upon the strong foundation Abbott has set in adopting the UN Principles for Responsible Investment and integrating ESG considerations into Abbott’s investment process. Prior to joining Abbott in 2000, he was a financial examiner at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.  He also worked for First Trust Washington and Bank of America as a trust officer. Mr. Smith received his A.B. in History and his M.B.A. in Finance from Georgetown University.
